Born 15 May 1887, the year of Queen Victoria's jubilee, son of Thomas and Eunice Young (Revs. Jabes, Glasnant and Owen Young were his brothers). He was born in Maenclochog, Pembrokeshire, but he was brought up in Aberavon, Glamorganshire, and as a young man he moved to Tonypandy, Rhondda Valley, to work in a draper's shop. A member of Moreia Baptist church he began to preach there in 1906 and the following year enrolled at Old College School, Carmarthen. He was ordained minister of Capel Rhondda, Pontypridd in 1910 and he ministered later to churches in Felinganol (1914) and Seion, Llanelli (1931). He retired in 1957. His gifts as a powerful preacher were clear from the start and he became one of 'the princes' of the Welsh pulpit. He was regularly invited to preach at denominational meetings, and he preached at the St. David's Day service at City Temple, London in 1922, at Central Hall, Liverpool in 1923, and at the Welsh service at the Baptist Union of Great Britain in Cardiff in 1924. He was president of the Pembrokeshire meeting (Cymanfa) in 1929, and president of the Welsh Baptist Union in 1946. He died 23 January 1962 leaving a widow Mya (née Jones of Capel Rhondda) and one son.
