WYNN family, of Cesail Gyfarch, Penmorfa, Caernarfonshire

This family numbered some well-known men among its members and was connected by marriage with many other influential North Wales families. To it belonged MEREDYDD ab EVAN (died 1525), of Gwydir, descended from Owain Gwynedd; he married Margaret, daughter of Morris ap John ap Meredydd, of Clenennau, Penmorfa, and by her (she was his third wife), was the father of HUMPHREY WYNN of Cesail Gyfarch. Humphrey Wynn's wife was Catherine, daughter and heiress of Evan ap Gruffydd ap Meredydd, of Cwmbowydd, Ffestiniog; their son, JOHN WYNN AP HUMPHREY (who was buried at Ffestiniog), married Catherine (buried at Penmorfa), daughter of William Wynn ap William, Cochwillan. John Wynn ap Humphrey's heir was ROBERT WYNN (died 1637), who married Mary, daughter of Ellis ap Cadwaladr, Ystumllyn, and was the father of eight children, including John Wynn (died 1660), Ellis Wynn, Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, Owen Wynn (died 1675), who was educated at Oxford and became a barrister (Inner Temple), Humphrey Wynn (died 1664), vicar of Oswestry and master of the free school there, and Griffith Wynn, whose son, William, married Ann (Evans) of Tan-y-bwlch, Maentwrog.

JOHN WYNN, the heir of Robert Wynn, married Jane (Lloyd), Dulasau, and by her was the father of (a) ROBERT WYNN (died January 1685/6), the heir, (b) MARGARET (1618 - 1679), who married Richard Humphreys (died 1699), Hendre Gwenllian, Penrhyndeudraeth, and (c) two other daughters. Robert Wynn, who was a barrister-at-law, left Cesail Gyfarch to his nephew, bishop Humphrey Humphreys, son of his sister Margaret and of Richard Humphreys. The bishop, by his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Morgan, bishop of Bangor, left two daughters, ANN (died 1 January 1699/1700), and MARGARET (died 1759). The latter married John Lloyd, barrister-at-law, son of William Lloyd, bishop of Norwich. ANNA LLOYD, the issue of the marriage between Margaret and John Lloyd, died unmarried in 1784, leaving the property to her father's brother, admiral Lloyd, of Tregaian, Anglesey
