Generally known as ' William Williams, Waterbeach,' Cambs. He was ordained and appointed chaplain to an English foundry in Rotterdam; afterwards he was vicar of Waterbeach, 1794-1812. William Owen Pughe, the official editor of the 1807 (Cambridge) edition of Y Bibl Cyssegr-Lan, is said to have been so negligent that nearly 3,000 copies were issued in a defective form, chapter viii of the Book of Judges being omitted altogether. This caused much concern to Thomas Charles (of Bala) and the other sponsors of this issue of the Welsh Bible, but the situation was saved by the energy and scholarship of William Williams. He died 13 October 1812; there is a mural commemorative tablet in Waterbeach church.
