Born 25 May 1774, the son of Owen Williams, farmer and inn-keeper, the Sign, Llanbedrog, Caernarfonshire, and Catherine, his wife - and christened 3 June 1774. He spent some time at sea - one of his awdlau was written on board H.M.S. Amethyst, 1800 - but he returned and settled in his native county. Several poems by him were published at Tremadoc in Y Brython and there is a selection of awdlau, cywyddau, and englynion included by John Jones (Myrddin Fardd) in Cynfeirdd Lleyn, 1905. He died in May 1814, and was buried in the churchyard of Ceidio, Caernarfonshire
