son of John Thomas of Glamorgan. He matriculated from Jesus College, Oxford, 11 April 1747, at the age of 16, under the name Nathan Thomas. Foster (Alumni Oxonienses) does not say whether he graduated, but Welsh biographers give him the degree of B.A. He became the editor and proprietor of the St. James's Chronicle, London. He also edited an abridgement of Ainsworth's Latin dictionary in 1758, and corrected another edition of the same work in 1761. In 1768 he published an edition of Eutropius with translation and notes.
