Born 17 May 1809 at Builth, Brecknock. When he was a young man he moved to Crickhowell where he kept a shop, and was clerk to the board of guardians. He was appointed organist of Llangattock parish church, a post which he held for many years. He wrote several hymn-tunes and other musical pieces; some hymn-tunes by him were published in Yr Arweinydd Cerddorol and Caniadau Seion (R. Mills). He is chiefly remembered as the composer of the hymn-tune called ' Cysur.' He died 7 March 1892 at Hereford, and was buried at S. Edmund's churchyard, Crickhowell.
