son of Matthew Jones, of Caerfallwch, Northop, Flintshire. From Westminster School he went up at 18 to Christ Church, Oxford, and graduated in 1685. He held several livings in England, as a rule for very short periods - the details are given in D.N.B. - and was remarkable for the wildness of his preaching and for his violent temper, which indeed at times became insane. He died in great poverty. The only reason for including him in this work is the fact that he was the object of Thomas Brown's famous squib The Welch Levite tossed in a Blanket, 1692.
