to William ap Sir Rhys Thomas, a commander who served under the earl of Leicester in the Low Countries and who was killed at Zutphen in 1586. It is surmised that the poet died at the same time. At least two of his poems have been preserved, one a religious carol and the other a better known carol of longing for Caernarvon, composed when the poet was in Flanders.
