A native, it is said, of Cynwyd, Meironnydd. No details regarding his life are known, but at least two of his poems in free metres remain. One is entitled 'Hanes yr hen ŵr o'r coed,' and the other, in the form of a dialogue between two sisters, has alternate stanzas by Mathew Owen of Llangar and himself.
Avoid confusing him with Dafydd Emlyn (Dafydd William Prys), fl. 1603-1622
