Born March 1870 at Glynberws, Ysbyty Ystwyth, Cardiganshire, son of David Morgan ('Y Diwygiwr'; 1814 - 1883) and Jane his wife. He was educated at Ysbyty Ystwyth board school, Ystradmeurig school, Thomas Owens's school, Aberystwyth and Trefeca College. He was ordained in 1894, and served his ministry at Cowbridge, Glamorganshire (1893-95), and Mold, Flintshire (1895-1946). In 1895 he married Jeanetta Thomas, Llancatal, Vale of Glamorgan. After retiring he went to live with his daughter in Irby, Cheshire, where he died 23 January 1954.

All his life he enjoyed writing, and his work, mostly historical, appeared in the periodicals of his denomination. He had a gift for recording the striking and pithy sayings and idiosyncracies of elders and preachers. He published several very useful biographies: Hanes Dafydd Morgan a Diwygiad '59 (1906); Cofiant Edward Matthews (1922); Cofiant Evan Phillips (1930); and Hanes Daniel Owen (1936). At the end of his life he published his autobiography and reminiscences in three interesting volumes (1948, 1949 and 1953), under the title A welais ac a glywais.
