son of Thomas and Mary Roberts, Garthmorthin, Treflys, between Portmadoc and Criccieth, Caernarfonshire — he hailed from the family of ‘Dafydd y Garreg Wen’. When he was about 20 years of age, he went to live at Ty-mawr, Treflys, the home of Griffith Roberts, an uncle, and spent the remainder of his days there, unmarried. He was a zealous member of the Cefnymeusydd literary society — see Ellis Owen, Cefnymeusydd. He died 19 June 1876, and was buried in Treflys churchyard. Poems by him are preserved in N.L.W. MS. 1010.
