Born 8 February 1793 at Felin Newydd, Llangeler, Carmarthenshire, son of Ebenezer Rees. He was educated at Castellhywel school and Jesus College, Oxford. He was curate of Goetre, Monmouth, 1818-23, and in 1823 was appointed perpetual curate of Aberystruth. He died 13 June 1857. At the request of the bishop of Llandaff he published Casgliad o Psalmau a Hymnau (W. Rees, Llandovery) in 1831, and A Selection of Psalms and Hymns (Llandovery) in 1832. Both books were very popular in the Established Church, for the 6th imp. of the Welsh book appeared in 1860 and the 7th imp. of the English book in 1858. There are a few translations and original hymns by Rees himself in both books.
