Born at Llanynys, Denbighshire, c. 1718. A contemporary of John Williams (Ioan Rhagfyr), he was a good musician. His hymn-tune ' Hero ' appeared in Haleliwia Drachefn (G. Harries) and a ' Traethdon ' (chant) in Y Cerddor Cymreig, August 1867; he is better known, however, for the hymn-tune called ' Dyfrdwy.' He died in 1798.
